Girls bowling send 1 to State. Lauren Vander Maas finished 4th on the strength of a 181 game and no games under 154. Finishing in the top 20 were Emily Dertien @ 14th, Jaydan Blouw @ 17th and Jennifer Mohr @ 20th. Natalie Vander Meer and Nat Mercer also finished in the top half of the field. Great bowling ladies.

Girls bowling heads to state for the 2nd year in a row. The girls finished 3rd. The finish was very dramatic. The girls went into the last regular game in 5th place and down by 44 pins. They needed to pass Muskegon Oakridge and Kent City to get to State. It all came down to the lass frame and Lauren Vander Maas. Lauren needed 2 strikes and 5 pins to advance. There was no other way they get to the total needed to advance. Lauren, not knowing what she needed to get, calmly threw 2 strikes to start th 10th. Only needing 7 pins, she calmly threw a 3rd strike to "chicken out" as the girls have so affectionately named 3 strikes in the 10th frame, to take 3rd place by 5 pins. Joining her on the trip to State are Jennifer Mohr, Emily Dertien, Nat Mercer, Jaydan Blouw, Natalie Vander Meer, and Aubrey Kerkstra. Great job ladies.

Crusaders Lose: 0.00 - 0.00
Girls bowling finished 2nd at the OK Blue post conference tournament. Struggles in the 1st and 3rd regular game held the girls back. The 2nd regular game was their best and they were led by Lauren Vander Maas, 184 and Jaydan Blouw, 173. The girls did take some top 10 honors in the tournament. Lauren Vander Maas finished 6th, Jaydan Blouw finished 7th and Jennifer Mohr finished 9th.
The All-Conference team was announced as well. Making the team with top season averages are Lauren Vander Maas, who finished in 4th place with a 168.73 average, Jennifer Mohr, who finished in 6th place with a 155.1 average and Nat Mercer, who finished in 7th place with a 150.07 average. Capturing honorable mention are Emily Dertien, who finished in 8th place with a 149.64 average and Jaydan Blouw, who finished in 10th place with a 139.84 average.
What a nice season. Finishing 2nd in the conference may have not been their intention, it was still a great to see all of the all-conference honors.

The girls bowling team defeated a short handed Calvin squad 28-2. Lauren Vander Maas led all scores with a 176 game. Jennifer Mohr added a 173 in the win.

Crusaders Lose: 13.00 - 17.00
Girls bowling loses to West Catholic 17-13. The girls failed to score any points in the baker games falling down 10-0. They took 4 points in the 1st regular game behind strong games by Emily Dertien, 176 and Jaydan Blouw, 181, but they could not tak the last point or total because of the tremendous game of 279 by Kayla Van Linden. Needing all the remaining points to steal a tie, the girls bowled their best regular game of the season, 915. This game was led by Jennifer Mohr, 200 and Nat Mercer, 225. They got all but 2 points. But in the loss they shot their best 2 game series of the yearas well, 1731. Nice going ladies

Girls bowling finihed 6th at the Hudsonville Invitational. After qualifying 9th after 2 regular games that included games of 222 by Lauren Vander Maas and 176 by Nat Mercer. The girls then shot the 3rd highest baker game total, including a 181. The 6th place finish was behind 4 - D1 schools and 1 - D2 school. Not a bad day.

Girls bowling won 28-2 versus Fruitport on 2/1. Fruitport was short handed so it was an easy win. But the girls did not take it easy. They short their best regular game of the season, 890. They shot their best series of the season, 1702. They shot their best baker series of the season outside of tournaments, 325.

Girls bowling lost 22-1/2 - 7-1/2 to Zeeland on 1/31. Trailing 4-6 after the baker games, where they shot a 177. The girls only managed 3-1/2 points against the powerhouse Zeeland team. The girls were led by Lauren Vander Maas and Jennifer Mohr with games of 194 and 173 respectively.

Girls bowling finished as runners up in the Zeeland Baker Invitational on 1/21. They averaged 152.3 in the qualifying round of 10 baker games, including games of 185 and 179. This was good enough to qualify them 2nd. They defeated Allendale in the 1st round by 68 pins. Then they defeated Rockford in the 2nd round by 77 pins. The 3rd round put them against the 3rd seeded Hastings team. They defeated Hasting by 3 pins on the back of a 192 game, their season high, coming back from 46 down after the 1st game. This put them into the finals against number 1 seed Zeeland. The girls shot their worst game on the tournament to go behind by 102 pins after the 1st game. They were not deterred and followed it up with their new best baker game of the season, a 193. However, it was not enough as Zeeland shot 191 and they went down, losing by 100 pins. Still they finished as runner up and shot their top 3 baker games of the season. Great job girls.

Girls bowling win 25-5 over Allendale on 1/18. Leading 6-4 after baker games, the girls took 8 of 9 points in the 1sr regular game and led the series by over 200 pins. They swept the 2nd regualr game and took 19 of 20 possible points. Lauren Vander Maas led the girls with games of 179 and 172.

Girls finsihed 9th at the Jenison Invite on 1/7. Despite games of 203 by Lauren Vander Maas and 174 by Jennifer Mohr, the girls could not overcome a couple of low Baker games and missed the cut by 21 pins. Lauren Vander Maas did finish 5th overall for the girls individually.

Unity faced conference rival Coopersville on Monday afternoon in the first match of the season. The coopersville girls only had 4 bowlers so the match was pretty much already decided, but we still needed to play on. Unity jumped out to a 10 - 0 lead after baker games. Then they swept the 1st regular game for a 19-0 lead led by Lauren VanderMaas with a fine 176. The 2nd game was a bench clearing for the subs and they finished 29 - 1. Lauren VanderMaas added another outstanding game of 210. She was joined by Emily Dertien with a fine 177.
